HOW DO I KNOW IF MY TREATMENT IS COVERED?

The first step is to check with your insurance provider to see if they cover the dental procedure you need. You can usually do this by logging into your account on their website, or giving them a call. Once you have that information, our team can help estimate what portion of the treatment will be covered, and what your out-of-pocket costs will be. We'll also be happy to bill your insurance directly so you don't have to worry about it. As a general rule, preventative care, like cleanings and check-ups, are often fully or mostly covered by insurance, while more extensive procedures may have co-pays or deductibles associated with them.

what if i don't have insurance?

No problem! We offer several different payment options to make dental care affordable for everyone. We accept cash, checks, and all major credit cards, and we also offer financing. If you have any questions about paying for your treatment, our team would be happy to help.

understanding common insurance terms

Common insurance terms it can be helpful to understand include:

Deductible. A deductible is the amount of money you are responsible for paying before your insurance company will start to contribute. For example, if your deductible is $200 and you need a procedure that costs $1,000, you will pay the first $200 and then your insurance company will cover the rest.

Copay. A copay is a set fee that you are responsible for paying each time you visit the dentist. For example, if your co-pay is $20 and you need a procedure that costs $100, you will pay the $20 co-pay and your insurance company will cover the rest.

Annual Limit. An annual limit is the maximum amount of money your insurance company is willing to pay for dental care in a year. Once you reach that limit, you are responsible for paying 100% of the costs of any further treatment.

Coinsurance. Coinsurance is a percentage of the cost of a procedure that you are responsible for paying. For example, if your coinsurance is 20% and you need a procedure that costs $100, you will pay $20 and your insurance company will cover the rest.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

  • What is dental insurance?

Dental insurance is a type of health insurance that helps cover the cost of dental care, including preventive and restorative care such as cleanings, fluoride treatments, X-rays, fillings and crowns. Some plans may also provide coverage for more expensive procedures like root canals, braces, dentures and implants. Dental insurance plans can be purchased as individual policies or included in employer-sponsored health care packages.

  • How does dental insurance work?

Most dental insurance plans have coinsurance and deductibles that must be met before the plan will cover services. Coinsurance is a percentage of each covered service that you must pay out of pocket, while a deductible is an amount you must pay before the plan begins to cover any services. After the deductible has been met, most plans will cover a certain percentage of each covered service with the rest being paid out of pocket.

  • What services are generally covered by dental insurance?

Most dental insurance plans cover preventive care such as cleanings, X-rays, and fluoride treatments. The plan may also cover more complex services such as fillings, crowns, root canals, dentures and implants. However, coverage for these services may vary by plan so it is important to review your policy to see what is covered.

  • Is cosmetic dentistry covered by insurance?

Generally, most dental insurance plans do not cover procedures that are considered to be cosmetic such as teeth whitening or veneers. However, some plans may cover a portion of the cost if the procedure is deemed medically necessary.  It is important to check with your plan provider to see what is covered.

  • How can I find a dentist that takes my insurance?

Many dental insurance plans have networks of dentists who have agreed to accept the plan’s rates and policy terms. You can usually search online or call your plan provider to find a list of in-network providers. You may also be able to find a list of participating dentists on your policy’s website. It is important to make sure the dentist you choose is in-network, as out-of-network providers may not accept your insurance coverage.

  • Can I use my dental insurance for family members?

Most dental insurance plans allow you to add family members, including children and spouses, to your policy. You may also be required to pay an additional premium for each family member added. Check with your plan provider for more information about adding family members.
